The Real Danger Of Self-Sabotage
Claire may be just like you.
She’s smart, brilliant at her craft and works with clients she adores.
She has incredible goals and dreams for herself and her business, but there’s something standing in the way of her reaching them.
When she came to me she was stuck and spinning away from what matters in her business and life.
“I want to be more visible as a thought leader, yet whenever I try to engage on social media, or apply to speak at a conference, I become blocked. The next thing I know, I’m scrolling through social feeds or doing busywork tasks.”
Many of my clients come to me with this exact challenge.
They have a big beautiful goal they want to achieve yet they're blocked from moving forward.
Perhaps you can see yourself in Claire.
It’s called self-sabotage and it runs rampant in the entrepreneurial journey.
Business owners just like you and Claire may experience self-sabotage tendencies and aren’t even aware that something is hindering your path forward.
Self-sabotage is sneaky, showing up in your work performance as:
Disorganization
Indecisiveness
Perfectionism
Procrastination
Imposter syndrome
What these behaviours have in common is they get in the way of your important work by distracting your focus away from your goals and toward less meaningful tasks.
Self-sabotage helps you hide out in your business.
In Claire’s case, she was a chronic over-researcher, believing that her quest for “the right way” was essential before she took that next step. The result wasn’t her finding the “right way”, it was her failure to move forward.
When we delved deeper, Claire came to understand that her inaction was rooted in her feelings of unworthiness.
Through our coaching sessions she uncovered that deep down she believed she didn’t deserve success or recognition. Imposter syndrome also came into the picture when Claire said, “Who am I to think I can speak with authority on this topic?”
She surprised herself when that comment came out into the open and into her awareness.
It was precisely those beliefs that fueled her self sabotage and led her to inadvertently undermine her own efforts.
Understanding the dangers of self-sabotage is a vital step on your path to success.
