You Get To Come First

Here’s a reminder … you are a human BEING, not a superhero.

Running my agency, I too wore the superhero mask. I believed I could juggle projects, manage my team, and fight all the fires. And, I thought I could still be there for my family, smiling and happy.

That was my dream.

As a boutique creative agency owner, perhaps you share some of this dream.

What I know about you is you’re no stranger to the hustle.

Clients rely on you, your team looks up to you, and the endless to-do lists keep piling up. In the whirlwind of responsibilities, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing you need to BE a superhero, sacrificing your well-being for the sake of the business, putting yourself last.

Let’s Dispel the Superhero Myth

You may glorify the idea of the tireless leader, working around the clock and putting others above yourself.

It’s an image that’s hard to shake, especially when the success of your agency feels like it’s riding on your shoulders.

The truth is, as a human, sometimes you get sick, you feel tired, there’s a family emergency, or you simply feel overwhelmed. Trying to portray the superhero image while all this is going on, isn’t sustainable.

When I see this in my clients (and myself), I know what’s next: burnout, decreased productivity, and ultimately a diminished capacity to lead effectively.

The Answer is More Self-Care, Not Less

Imagine your energy and creativity as a rechargeable battery.

Without regular recharges, that battery will eventually run out of juice.

Think of self-care as the process of recharging. It starts with giving yourself permission to rest, rejuvenate, and refocus. And doing so unapologetically. Without guilt.

When you take care of yourself, you’re better equipped to take care of your business, your relationships, and your family.

Borrow This Belief: Self-Care is Possible for You

You might be thinking, “This all sounds great, but I can’t afford to take time off,” or “My business will suffer if I’m not constantly on the go.”

There’s no doubt your agency is important to you, so it’s no wonder these objections bubble to the surface. They feel valid and real to you, yet ask yourself, “How true are these stories you’re telling yourself?”

Think of times you had to step away from your business. Did the whole thing crumble?

Here’s a path to making self-care possible for you. I call this Sacred Self-Care:

🌟Start Small :: Self-care doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Begin with small, manageable steps. Try incorporating just 5-10 minutes of “me time” into your day, and gradually increase it.

🌟 Reframe Your Mindset: Shift from “I don’t have time for self-care” to “Self-care makes me more effective.” Taking care of yourself is an investment in your business. When you’re well-rested and energized, you’re more creative, productive, and capable of handling challenges.

🌟 Identify the Non-Negotiables: Determine essential tasks or activities for your well-being and make them non-negotiable, like a daily walk, weekly hobby, or monthly massage. Prioritizing these sets a standard for self-care.

🌟Seek Support :: You don’t have to do it alone. Surround yourself with a support network that encourages and reminds you of the importance of self-care.

🌟Track Your Progress :: Keep a journal or use an app to track your self-care activities and how they make you feel. Seeing your progress can be a powerful motivator and help you stay committed to your self-care routine.

Taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. By prioritizing your well-being, you invest in your business and life.

Make Sacred Self-Care a vital part of your leadership toolkit.
