Are your promises falling flat?

Sales before delivery? Here’s how it’s costing you.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but when I do, I want it to be the good stuff.

I also don’t like shopping for makeup because I have no idea what I’m doing—what products I need or what suits my coloring and age. So when I do go, I like to have someone who knows exactly what they’re doing.

Someone I can trust.

Recently, my makeup supplies were dwindling, and it was time to embark on a shopping trip.

The salesperson dabbed, smudged, and blended her way into my heart. I loved the products and the results. With my credit card in hand, I was ready to make the investment. But just as my excitement peaked, I learned some of the products weren’t in stock.

My excitement and trust came to a screeching halt.

And I left feeling disappointed and knowing I had to keep working on this task I thought would be easy to complete.

Here’s my question for you: Do you build excitement in marketing and selling your services, only to fall short on delivery?

By falling short I mean …

1. You don’t have the right team in place to offer an exceptional client experience. You’re likely still juggling every detail yourself, which leaves little room for focus on delivery.

2. You’re recreating and customizing each project with every new client. That takes heaps of time, effort, and money, and it drains your capacity (and profit) before the real work even begins.

3. You don’t have streamlined systems or processes in place. When everything is ad-hoc, you can’t keep up with demand, and promises fall through the cracks.

The result?

You’ve got an incredible offer but no capacity to deliver it. And that leaves your clients frustrated and looking elsewhere.

My friend, if any of this sounds familiar, there’s an important move you must make if you want to elevate your agency into trusted-partner status.

You have to build the plane before you fly it.

You may have heard some gurus proclaim the opposite. They advise you to sell first, and worry about the delivery later. If this feels uncomfortable, you’re right.

Sure, it works if your goal is to build your topline revenue. However, your bottom line takes a direct hit …

=> Profit evaporates.

=> Team is stressed.

=> Fear enters the picture.

And you, fueled by the fear of losing this client, jump into DOING again in order to fill the gaps because delivery took a backseat to sales.

So what’s the best next step?

You must build a solid foundation with the right processes, team, tools, and templates in place to support your big promises.

This is crucial to delivering on your commitments.
