Are You Wired For Burnout
What song brings tears to your eyes?
For me, it’s Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. Even the thought of it makes me feel weepy. 😿
If you don’t know it, here are the lyrics. (Read them and then come back and continue reading because this is important.)
In a nutshell, it's about a father who was so busy with work, he missed forming a relationship with his son.
"But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away."
As he grows old and now has time, his son has his own version of busy ...
"And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me, he'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me."
I have a question to ask you …
Are you ready to stop working so hard?
If this question, or more specifically your answer, makes you feel uneasy, that’s natural.
Let’s face it, you’re likely wired for working harder. Like most people, it’s been drilled into you since you started school and continues into adulthood.
There's a difference between working hard and hard work.
I understand the importance of working hard, but when did working yourself into exhaustion become something we "should" be proud of?
I once had a boss who took pride in strolling past our cubicles on a Friday afternoon towing her briefcase stuffed with work.
Numerous studies show when you’re in a constant state of busyness, your brain kicks into high alert, which can lead to fatigue, feeling out-of-control, depression, anxiety, and burnout.
And what I often see (and have experienced myself) is when you’re constantly on the go, you start neglecting self-care and not allowing yourself the time and space needed to recharge and rejuvenate.
So many of my clients feel they have to squeeze their personal life around their busy work schedule.
How does this resonate with you?
As a motivated and passion-driven person, you naturally want to succeed in your career and make a difference in the world … but at what cost?
Perhaps you’re thinking, "If I stop working so hard, I'll fall behind!"
I get it. That idea used to stick to me like my shadow on a sunny day.
After burning out of my beautiful web consulting business many years ago, this is what I've learned ...
Overwork steals your creativity, focus and joy. And when that happens, it's impossible to do your best work.
I invite you to change your perspective and embrace a new definition of success.
It’s time to rethink the way you work.
Success isn't about how many hours you work, it's about how you feel while doing your important work.
You can still make a difference without sacrificing your well-BEING.
Now that I’ve planted that seed, let me ask you …
Are you ready to redefine work and prioritize what truly matters?
Leave a comment and let me know your answer.
